SAPS pleads with residents to help stop crime

Cleveland SAPS is pleading with residents to work with them to combat crime.

“The station commander has made it clear that we cannot fight crime on our own. We need residents to be involved,” said the station’s spokesperson, Capt Johan Jordaan.

Jordaan said residents can help by giving police information regarding criminal activities and the whereabouts of wanted and other criminals.

“We need the community to report illegal firearms in the community and where criminals hide it.

“Street patrollers can also help us. We want members of each sector to be involved in the fight against crime.

“Crime affects our community. The trauma that goes with it is unbearable and we must stop all crimes from happening in this precinct,” he said.

Jordaan also urged residents to attend community policing forum meetings.

The meetings are held every first Tuesday of every month at Cleveland Police Station at 6.30pm.
