Hefty prison sentence for armed robbery

The Johannesburg High Court sentenced Lubabalo Khumalo (35) and Zinja Zwane (28) to an effective 28 years’ imprisonment each for armed robbery, on May 24.

The two were arrested in December 2016 after a man was robbed after buying groceries at the George Goch Train Station in Belgravia.

“Khumalo and Zwane pointed a firearm at the complainant and robbed him of a Samsung Tab 3 valued at R3 200. They ran away after the robbery, but the victim and his friend chased after them and managed to apprehend Khumalo,” said the spokesperson for Jeppe SAPS, Capt Richard Munyayi.

“Police officers were called to the scene and they attended to the complaint. They were given information which led them to Princess Informal Settlement to search for the second suspect. They managed to arrest Zwane and the two were taken to the Jeppe Police Station where they were charged with armed robbery and detained,” he said.
