Ivory products manufacturer arrested in Malvern

R500 000 reward for information that will lead to the arrest of the robbers responsible for Thursday's robbery and shoot-out.

Benoni and West Rand K9 units and members of Gauteng Nature Conservation arrested a 57-year-old man for manufacturing and being in possession of ivory products.

The arrest was made at the corner of 26th and Jules streets in Malvern recently.

Spokesperson for Cleveland SAPS Captain Johan Jordaan said police received a tip-off about a Zimbabwean citizen who makes chopsticks out of illegal ivory.

“Police officials proceeded to the given address. Upon arrival, they searched the building and found bangles made out of ivory and other goods. The 57-year-old was arrested and is expected to appear in court soon while police investigations continue,” he said.

Jordaan said the approximate street value of ivory products is estimated at R500 000.
