1 000 burpees – local gym lends a hand

CrossFit 1610 held a fund-raiser at its box. The money will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Association.

CrossFit 1610 hosted a successful fund-raising event in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Association.

The NEWS previously reported that the team at CrossFit 1610, in Sebenza, was raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Association. The gym challenged its members to take part in a 30-day challenge to raise the funds.

One of its members, Natalie Hinton, was diagnosed with a chronic lung disease called cystic fibrosis when she was seven months old.

The disease also affects other organs, such as the pancreas and the digestive system. During the 30-day challenge, members of the gym were required to do 100 burpees and donate money towards the association.

On August 30, CrossFit 1610 held a fund-raiser and the money raised will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Association.

Jordan Sparrow from CrossFit 1610 said members raised R4 135.

“CrossFit 1610 then matched the amount to raise a total of R8 270. We chose the Cystic Fibrosis Association as the beneficiary as one of our members suffers from the condition and she will be riding the 947 Cycle Challenge for the cause too. Our head coach promised to do 1 000 burpees if we could raise more than R2 000 – needless to say, we did, and our head coach, Jax Mc Cutcheon, completed 1 000 burpees in two hours and six minutes. Our members rallied behind her and did the last 20 burpees with her. The entire event was a success and we are all ecstatic about the amount raised,” said Jordan.
