Suspected connected to crimes

A man arrested in Malvern on August 23 has been connected to several other crimes reported in the Johannesburg area.

Johannesburg metro police arrested the 38-year-old suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm during a stop-and-search operation at the corner of Jules and Herriot streets.

According to Cleveland SAPS spokesperson, Capt Johan Jordaan, a JMPD officer stopped a white Chevrolet LDV with two male occupants.

“Officers asked to search the vehicle. As soon as the driver exited the vehicle, he ran away. Officers searched the passenger as well as the vehicle and found a black bag inside the vehicle,” he said. Jordaan said police found a R5 rifle with two magazines and 60 rounds of live ammunition.

They arrested the man who was taken to Cleveland Police Station where he was held for possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The other suspect is still on the run.

“During investigations, it was discovered that the suspect is wanted and linked to other cases in the Johannesburg area,” he said.
